Can’t Hide From K9 Bronco

At 02:25 am, on Friday August 16th, one of our graveyard deputies was driving on Pacific Ave E near military Rd when he noticed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to catch up and estimated the vehicle to be going over 90mph. Once he turned on his lights and siren the driver sped up to over 100 mph. The deputy started to pursue the speeding vehicle which started turning on side streets. After 3 quick turns the deputy lost sight and turned off his lights. He quickly located the vehicle and saw the suspect take off on foot. Our deputy usually would give chase right away, but he knew K9 Bronco was on his way. Deputies setup containment and had Bronco lead the way. During the track they located a cell phone, a holster and a loaded high capacity magazine. Neighbors started calling in the male running through their yards and deputies were able to move that way. It was slow and steady, but you have to understand most suspects only run so far before they hunker down and try to win a game of hide and seek. Bronco led deputies to an open field in the neighborhood and seemed pretty excited. The suspect was in fact 21 years old, not 15. He was arrested, transported to the hospital for his shoulder injury and then booked into jail for Reckless driving, Eluding and Possession of an Illegal Firearm. Great job deputies and nice tracking K9 Bronco!
