Festa at Sannat

One of the highlights of our week on Gozo - a visit to the village of Sannat on the evening of 22nd July, St Margaret's festa day, to see her statue brought out of the church and carried round in honour, with the village band playing all the way. Almost everyone in the village must have been playing an instrument or had a relative who did - even when the band divided into two halves and one stayed in the piazza while the rest accompanied St Margaret, the music was wonderful. The statue was lovely, too. We were sorry we had to go back in the hotel minibus quite early - the crowds were settling in for a long, joyful evening round the stalls in the piazza and the procession was only halfway round the village when we had to leave.
