It only took 15 years, but ABC has finally cast an African-American to lead one of their popular dating franchises. Rachel Lindsay, who is currently a contestant on The Bachelor, has been tapped to be the next Bachelorette. We finally accept this rose! Lindsay is a 31-year-old lawyer from Texas and will take the reigns on the 13th season of The Bachelorette when it premieres on May 22. “I’m happy to represent myself as a black woman in front of America and I’m happy for America to rally behind me and see what it’s like for me to be on this journey to find love,” Lindsay told PEOPLE. “Honestly, it’s not going to be that different from any other season of The Bachelorette.” The official announcement was made on last night's Jimmy Kimmel Live, and comes after ABC suffered years of controversy for failing to embrace diversity on the long-running franchise. While there have been many diverse suitors, the network has only had one non-white Bachelor/Bachelorette. In 2014, Venezuelan-American Juan Pablo Galavis became ABC's first Latino Bachelor. Congrats to Rachel! She may not find true love, but she's already made history.
