Chronic prostatitis category IV is a histologic diagnosis and it is asymptomatic. Welcome to UroChannel and the fourth installment of my comprehensive video series on prostatitis. In this video, we will delve into the intriguing realm of asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis – a condition that may not cause any noticeable symptoms but holds significant implications for your health. I'm Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, a board-certified urologist and sexologist from Göttingen, and by the end of this video, I will provide you with practical solutions to safeguard yourself against prostatic inflammation. Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis falls under category four, as classified by the National Institutes of Health. It's a condition diagnosed through laboratory analysis, where inflammatory cells are found in prostate biopsies or ejaculate and prostate secretions. Though you may not feel its effects, this condition is associated with elevated Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels, indicating prostate inflammation. Category IV prostatitis is particularly intriguing as it may hold the key to understanding complex prostate diseases. Studies reveal that chronic inflammation of the prostate is commonly observed in men with symptomatic benign prostatic enlargement. Notably, this inflammation has been linked to the development and progression of this condition. Furthermore, chronic inflammation is often reported in close proximity to histological diagnoses of prostate cancer, suggesting a possible association between inflammation and cancer risk. Various factors contribute to type IV prostatitis, including infections, urine reflux, diet, estrogens, age, and lifestyle. Interestingly, a pro-inflammatory diet, which promotes inflammation, has been associated with prostate cancer risk and progression. Surprisingly, some foods considered anti-inflammatory might not be as beneficial as previously thought. Hyperinsulinemia, often related to diet, also plays a role in inflammation and is linked to cancer development. Hence, maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in regular physical activity can significantly reduce inflammation, as well as the risk of benign prostatic enlargement and lower urinary tract symptoms. Understanding and unraveling the mysteries of category IV prostatitis could lead to groundbreaking advancements in the field of urology and medicine. To protect yourself from potential risks, I recommend adopting an anti-inflammatory diet, staying physically active, and managing your body weight. Additionally, safeguarding against sexually transmitted infections is essential.
