THE CANDID BOOK CLUB FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS | 07.09.24

In September 2024, we hosted our inaugural Candid Book Club Festival in collaboration with Waterstones at Foyles Charing Cross Road. It was absolutely fantastic, with 5 sessions across the day and almost 1000 attendees with a record number of books sold! The festival wouldn’t have been what it was without our incredible authors (and publishers) who came from far and wide to participate in the most wholesome and memorable day. Our first session of the day was a classic book club with Wiz Wharton discussing all things her debut novel, GHOST GIRL, BANANA! Our second session was our debut fiction panel chaired by the wonderful Poorna Bell in discussion with Shani Akilah, Wiz Wharton, Zoulfa Katouh and Ela Lee! For our third session, we invited Ian Russell-Hsieh, JJ Bola and Iggy London to discuss masculinity in the literature Fourthly, the incredible Etaf Rum was joined by the brilliant Yasmin Zaher to discuss Palestinian literature in the diaspora. And last but by no means least, we paired up the fantastic Mishal Husain with our favourite, Sairish Hussain - both granddaughters of Partition - to speak about their books which feature the Partition in fiction and non-fiction.
