If you can not see a spark when pushing the ignitor, first clean the metal surfaces of the thermopile, thermocouple, igniter, and pilot. A light sanding with sandpaper, wire brush, or steel wool works great to remove the soot. If your piezo ignitor (also spelled 'Igniter') is broken they are a cheap and easy replacement so don't worry too much about it. I think Home Depot and Lowe's sell them.
