1 Thessalonians 1 - Daily Bible Study

Pastor Jared Murray continues our Daily Bible study with a look at the first chapter of 1 Thessalonians. Some notes: Are you a positive or negative person? Have you stopped to think about that? Do you spend more time complaining what is going wrong or celebrating the good you see around you? We will talk about that a bit more today on Branch together as we begin Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians. Paul opens his letter by offering a blessing of grace and peace and then he recounts all the positive that he is thankful for regarding his these people. Paul gives thanks for this community always. He is constantly mentioning them in his prayer. He remembers their faith and love. He reminds them that all God is doing through the power of his holy spirit. He remembers their endurance through affliction. And he remembers and celebrates their faith and witness. The word of the Lord is going forth from this community. When we greet people. When we see people we love and when we encounter people that God has transformed do we start with thanksgiving and praise. Paul goes out of his way to almost always begin with thanks, encouragement and praise. When you meet people, friends, family, co-workers start with thanks and praise. Encourage them. Find the good they are doing and celebrate. And especially if you are part of a church community where you are friends and family with people that you have seen God use mightily lead with that. Now you might think well but we shouldn’t ignore problems or issues - absolutely not, and no one could ever accuse Paul of not bringing up the problems but he always leads with thanksgiving and praise for others - we can do the same. We should be striving to be known for those same marks. Faith, love, steadfastness through the difficulties of life and receiving and sharing the good news.
