Drew Nix of the 'Red Clay Strays' plays 'Stones Throw' with Tinyboatsession, Gunnison Creek, Alabama I know Drew and Laurie through Johnny. When I met Laurie Ann Armour and Drew Nix she had just added Nix to her name. Laurie is a solo artist and Drew plays with the Red Clay Strays. I didn't realize this at first as their marriage was so fresh that new last names were still landing in their new places. I texted both of them for a bit before I realized that it made way more sense to do both of their tinyboatsessions together. I love it when things like this turn out. Many of these tinyboatsessions are with just me and the artist, and sometimes I see and feel the performance and just can't believe I'm the only one there to experience it. They met me down at Gunnison Creek and ran into Bayou Sara. A bunch of kids were at the boat ramp and asked me what I was doing and I told them. They didn't believe me, and I thought for a second they might throw rocks, but soon Laurie and Drew showed up with a guitar and that seemed to convince them and they even seemed begrudgingly impressed. Having two newlywed musicians in the boat was a treat. People in love doing things that they love make a heart feel full by osmosis. We found a little chute of the creek ringed with palmettos and cypresses and the two took turns playing and then played together. It was the kind of evening that was easy to tarry, and so we did. I rowed, they played and the rowing took us past a couple sitting on their pier. They had heard the music through the trees and were delighted that we had found our way over to them to play some more and because we were all together we all felt a little more lucky than we would have felt alone.
