Johnny Davis was selected 10th overall in the 2022 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards. He had a stellar sophomore year in Wisconsin where he averaged 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and was named Big Ten Player of the Year. After disappointing performances in the NBA Summer League and Preseason games, he had a hard time to crack the rotation in real games. In the first five months of the season, he played a total of 62 minutes and had a combined 6 of 18 field goals to get 16 points in 13 games. At the month of March, the chances of the Wizards to get into the Play-in tournament were getting slim while the injury list to Bradley Beal and other rotational players were piling up. Davis used most of that time to show out. He played in the last 15 remaining games of the season and averaged 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 24.1 minutes. He started in the last five games of the season and put up 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 36.0 minutes per game. Davis finished his rookie season with the averages of 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 15.1 minutes in 28 games. He had 8 games where he scored double digits. His best game came in a loss against the no. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks on April 4, 2023 where he had 20 points in 9 of 17 shooting, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
