This Tarana in Raag Darbari weaves intricate rhythmic patterns that is visually represented by footworks, chakkars and kathak movements that bring out its beauty at best. Vocal and Music by Pt. Shankar Shanboug and choreography by Mysore B. Nagaraj, this Tarana is a popular rendition in the Kathak repertoire. Akshatha Amin Akshatha currently disciple of Mysore B Nagaraj is a performing artist of classical dance form Kathak from Bangalore. An Engineering graduate from Dr. Ambedkar College of Engineering, Bangalore, she also holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She began learning ‘Kathak’ from Dr.Maya Rao and later from Chitra Venugopal. She is trained in both Jaipur and Lucknow Gharana. She has been conferred with the titles “Natya Kalamani”, “Natya Mayuri”, “Rasa Priya”, “Natya prabha”, “Nrithya Shiromani” and “Padmavathi Rastriya Puraskar” by various States. She is also trained in Hindustani vocal by Ubhaya Gana Vidhushi Dr. Shyamala G Bhave alongside her performances as part of the Sri Saraswathi Sangeeth Vidyalaya Bengaluru in many platforms. She has performed at Dasara Festival in the prestigious Mysore Palace, Hampi Utsav, Madurai Meenakshi Temple, Kalai Kaveri college of fine Arts – Trichy, Sri Jayadeva Rastriya Samaroah at Bhuvaneshwar, Dr. Maya Rao Memorial Kathak Festival, Shilparamam - Hyderabad, Cuttack Mahotsav ,Shivanjali Festival- Mumbai, Paithrikam -Trivandrum kerala ,Bharathamuni festival organized by Karnataka Nrithyakala parishath, World Dance Day 2018-Vishakapatanam and many more. Kathak Kathak is one of the eight classical dance styles of India. It is a popular Indian Dance Form with a long history attached to its roots. Kathak is derived from Katha - Meaning Story & Kar - Meaning Doer. Kathakars or storytellers, would wander around places and during their journey, they would sing, dance and narrate legendary stories that later became a part of the Kathak Repertoire of Indian Classical Dance. The Lucknow Gharana of Kathak was founded by Ishwari Prasad, a devotee of the Bhakti movement. Ishwari lived in the village of Handiya situated in southeast Uttar Pradesh. Other gharanas are the Jaipur Gharana and the Benaras Gharana. Recently, Jigyasa Giri has also come up with a new gharana and has coined it as the Dakshin Gharana. Kathak has intricate footworks and rhythmic patterns that draw the audience worldwide to watch this Indian traditional dance form. Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt Achchan Maharaj, Saswati Sen, Jigyasa Giri, Roshan Kumari, Maya Rao are some of the popular Kathak dance artists.
