The story of Our Lady of Knock began on August 21, 1879, in the small village of Knock, County Mayo, Ireland. On that evening, 15 people, ranging from ages five to seventy-five, witnessed an extraordinary apparition at the south gable of the local parish church. The vision included the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and St. John the Evangelist, standing beside an altar with a lamb and a cross, surrounded by angels. The witnesses stood in pouring rain for up to two hours, praying the Rosary, while the apparition appeared in a bright whitish light, unmoving and clear, despite the darkness. The apparition was approved by the Catholic Church and became a site of pilgrimage for millions. In 1979, Pope John Paul II visited Knock, commemorating the centenary of the event and further endorsing its significance. Mother Teresa also visited the Shrine in 1993, adding to its worldwide recognition. Today, over one and a half million pilgrims visit the Shrine annually, seeking spiritual comfort and healing.
