10807 climate friendly and resilient approaches to water and sanitation management

This session will demonstrate the innovative approaches that WSTF and SNV have applied in Kenya to achieve sustainable development through climate proofed and inclusive interventions. In its Programming, WSTF has chosen to focus on climate change and integrated water resources management as essential aspects. WSTF will showcase interventions that have positively changed the lives of communities through: Conservation of scarce water resources, increasing access through storage, rainwater harvesting, efficient use of water and equitable distribution: Climate proofed water supply and sanitation infrastructure: Clean and renewable energy including solar, bio-gas and gravity schemes: Water efficient small scale agriculture, water for livestock and other livelihood components: Mangrove and ecosystem restoration: Faecal sludge management, use and re-use of waste by-products: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion. SNV will show-case how, in its co-programming with WSTF, an innovative public private and community partnership contributed to water security at household level by combining behavioural change, customer supply chains and finance, and at institutional level through sustained collective services, behaviour change and different management models. We demonstrate how this WASH approach in ASAL Kenya led to improved rural water governance, operator performance and post-construction services, behaviour change, quality of rehabilitation and construction at system level.
