Backpacking Snow Mesa

Five day, four night, 40ish mile out-and-back family backpacking trip through La Garita Wilderness in Southern Colorado. We parked at the Spring Creek Trailhead, crossed the Silver Thread Scenic Byway (Highway 149) and followed Colorado Trail Segment 21/the Continental Divide Trail to the top of Snow Mesa, past San Luis pass to the cut off for the summit of San Luis Peak and then came back. We did San Luis Peak in the afternoon after setting up camp about four miles from the Summit. In July 2023, we had plenty of water (from melting snow). We stayed and charged our electric car in Salida before the trip and drove all the way back to Denver, with a stop to charge and eat, on our last backpacking day.
