Born in Point Fortin as the sixth of nine children, his first taste of 'culture' came at age nine as a member of Pan Jumbies, a Pan 'Round D Neck side based in New Lands, Point Fortin. He later played tenor pan with Tornadoes. At school, Melville joined a drama group called Progressors out of Point Fortin. He was later invited to become a member of the Warden Road Folk Performers and performed as part of the group for approximated 10 years in the Prime Minister's Best Village Trophy Competition. He won the Best Actor Award in 2005. A calypsonian in his own right, Melville won Point Fortin Composite School's Calypso competition with his own composition - "Coke Is It", in 1987. He later placed third at Government Vocational Centre's calypso competition, in Point Fortin. As he matured, his success in the art form continued as he captured a hat-trick at the WACK 90.1FM calypso competitions in 2007, 2008 and again in 2009. Melville composes everything he performs. In 1997, he placed third on Scouting for Talent, performing a monologue entitled Pan Man. In 2000, a friend brought the Yangatang tent to Point Fortin and invited him to appear as a guest. He was hired on the spot. Since then, there has been no turning back for Melville who, apart from his local performances, has performed throughout the Caribbean, the US and Canada. In the early 2000s Melville, staged two concerts in his hometown, Point Fortin.
