Alhambra Guitars: Cutaway Models

Grant MacNeill and Gordon O'Brien continue our review of Alhambra guitars, here with the Cutaway Classical models. We're looking at the Model 3, the 7P and 7FC, and the new Z Nature. The model 3 uses a shallower body with a solid cedar top, laminate mahogany for the back and sides, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. The Alhambra 7P CW E5 Cutaway Classical is Alhambra’s 7P advanced Student Model fitted with with a cutaway and Fishman E5 Prefix Premium Blender system. Handcrafted using solid woods, the Alhambra 7P CW E5 Cutaway Classical features a German Spruce top (Red Western Cedar is also available) with sides and back of Indian Rosewood for the clasical model or Cypress for the flamenco version, the 7FC CW. The necks are mahogany, reinforced with ebony, and with ebony fingerboards. The choice of Red Western Cedar or German Spruce for the top is up to the player. Both provide an excellent sound and will open and develop with use – the more you play the guitar, the better it sounds. Red Cedar develops more rapidly into a warm, rich tone, while Spruce provides added brilliance and top end, with a faster response. The Z Nature is a new model, with a cedar top and an 'Open Pore' finish intended to allow the instrument to express its tone without restriction. Bracing is like the model 3, and it has a full size classical neck. These instruments are more affordable, due partly to the cost of high-gloss finishes.
