In the manga, there are times when it can be very good or at least more interesting the anime. Here are 13 reasons why the Dragon Ball Super manga is superior and better than the animated story. For example, Whis addressing Super Saiyan Blue and its name, Goku using Hakai against Zamasu and the payoff with Ultra Ego Vegeta later in the Granolah Saga. Then of course there's the Tournament of Power and the use of Gohan vs Kefla. In short, check out that video to realise that the anime and manga are not as similar as you might think. Sometimes some scenes feel so vital to the characters and scenes, that it's hard to believe that they weren't a part of Toriyama's original vision; in that video, there is one character who is much less imposing in the manga than in the anime! However, we also mentioned that in terms of Super, largely due to, again, the rather pretty atypical production process, those differences are even more notable, especially during the later sagas...when it became clear that Toyotaro was starting to get a little antsy. Most of you probably know this, but both the anime staff and Toyotaro were utilizing some notes from the Toribot himself. And though the source was the same, it was often pretty vague, which often ended up with a creation of vastly different stories and approaches. Perhaps this is why Toriyama has taken more of an active role in providing story beats and writing screenplays like with the Broly movie and the movie coming out this year. In general, it is considered that the anime version might be slightly superior, especially when it got ahead of its manga counterpart, especially during the Tournament of Power arc... and we would agree - the animated series has, in general, a better quality to the earlier works of Toyotaro, which to us often felt as edgier, fan fickier versions of the stories we know from the small screen. However, we also know that there are people in the fandom who prefer the version set out in the manga, as they are more coherent and do not have the "many cooks" issue, as we had with the ToP. Put simply, Toyotaro could run the show based on his boss's notes and maybe his editor's little nudges but far less intrusion than the anime team would have had. But today, we won't judge - at least not in that way; because at the end of the day it is the matter of your own enjoyment really. If you think manga is better, all the power to you!
