Selfie King is a type of movie that is rarely made in Nepal. With all the colorful shallow movies in theaters nowadays, this is a breath of fresh air. The movie is about a three day journey of a comedian to a remote village for a performance in an event. The movie succeeds in aspects of storytelling and the performance given by the lead actor is highly commendable. The movie also provides social commentary that highlights many problems faced by the citizens in Nepal. This was tastefully done without being ham-fisted into audiences throats. While the movie succeeded in many aspects it had a lot of pacing problems. There were lots of scenes that I felt dragged on for a bit too long. The first half of the movie was full of these issues while the second half lacked a bit of resolution. I felt that the characters introduced in the first half should have had some development in the second half. If their stories were not going anywhere, why establish them in the first place? Overall, I enjoyed the movie. The second half more than the first. This movie is not for everyone. If you like character driven stories, you'll like it. I'll give it a light 7/10.
