In this video, I discuss the last judicial execution in the United Kingdom. It took place on August 13th, 1964, and the two that met their demise were "Peter Anthony Allen", and "Gwynne Owen Evans". They were executed for murdering "John Alan West". They intended to rob John to pay a £10 pound fine they got from another crime, as the duo had a history of petty crime together, but due to Gwynne's jacket being left on John's banister, it wasn't long before the police found the culprits, who each blamed the other for the crime. Weeks after their execution, an act named "Murder (Abolition of Death Penalty) act 1965" was put into place, that prohibited any further judicial executions. If the execution of Peter & Gwynne had been delayed by a few weeks, it's likely they would have faced prison, rather than execution. Reports released in Summer 2017 by the National Archives, indicated that Gwynne Evans had "Serious psychological problems", which if his defense team had presented at his trial, could have led to his escaping of the execution. This video is a simple look back at an event in history. Thank you for watching. I aim to present information an efficient format, without wasting your time with needless irrelevant chatter, in videos meant to present specific information. Have a great day.
