Rahat Indori (1 January 1950 – 11 August 2020) was an Indian Bollywood lyricist and Urdu languagepoet.[1] He was also a former professor of Urdulanguage and a painter.[2] Prior to this he was a pedagogist of Urdu literature at Devi Ahilya University, Indore. Rahat Indori (born on 1 January 1950; age 70 years in 2020) is a well-known Urdu Shayari and lyrics writer. He has also earned a name for himself in the Bollywood as well as a lyricist. He has written some of the most famous songs of Bollywood such as Khat Likhna Humein Khat Likhna, M Bole To Master, Chori Chori Jab Nazrein Mili, Neend Churayee Meri, and Koi Jaye to le aye among various others. In his illustrious career, he has conferred with various awards. Early Life: Rahat Indori was born on 1 January 1950 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. He completed his school education from Nutan School Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Later, he completed his college education from Islamia Karimia College Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India and Barkatullah University, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, and Bhoj University, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. His childhood was a tough one as the family was going through a financial crisis, so he began to work as a sign-painter at the tender age of ten. Rahat took up a teacher’s job in Urdu literature at IK College, Indore and got engrossed in mushairas and began to get invitations from everywhere in India and abroad. He was a good student and also the captain of the football and hockey teams at school and college levels. He recited his first sher in his college days when he was only 19. Family & Relationships: Rahat Indori was born to father Rafatullah Qureshi (a cloth mill worker) and mother Maqbool Un Nisa Begum. Rahat Indori has 3 siblings. Rahat Indori married Seema Rahat. Later, the couple was blessed with 2 sons Faisal Rahat and Satlaj Raha and daughter Shibli Irfan. Rahat with his family. Career: Before coming to poetry, he used to be a painter and even started painting on a commercial scale. He used to paint Bollywood film’s posters and banners. He designs the cover of books even today. Indori has performed in Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan from the last 40 – 45 Years. He has traveled widely internationally to recite poetry. He has attended poetic symposiums in almost all the districts of India and has also traveled hundred of times to USA, UK, UAE, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Mauritius, KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc. Indori was invited as a guest in The Kapil Sharma Show twice. First, on 1 July 2017 episode of Season 1 along withKumar Vishwas and Shabinaji; and the second time with Ashok Chakradhar on 21 July 2019 episode of Season 2. Indori was also invited to the show Wah! Wah! Kya Baat Hai! on SAB TV. A poem named Bulati Hai Magar Jaane Ka Nahi got viral in TikTok and started trending on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram during 2020 Valentine’s week. People started using this phrase as a meme. After completing graduation in 1973, he spent 10 years in a confused state. He did nothing during that period and used to wander hither and thither. However, after being convinced by his friends, he pursued his post-graduation in Urdu Literature and passed out with Gold Medal. He was given an offer to teach at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Since the prerequisite to teaching there was to have a Ph.D. degree, he pursued a Ph.D. in Urdu Literature and started teaching there as Professor of Urdu Literature. He taught there for 16 years.
