My first full day in Indonesia, and I’m in the heart of Pontianak—a huge, chaotic city that never seems to slow down! As I’m staying in the city center, I figured it was time to explore and get a feel for the place while tackling a big task: finding out about ferries to the mainland. I’m behind schedule on my travels, and I really need to keep moving! Armed with my trusty offline maps app (Organic Maps), I set off for the waterfront, not entirely sure what I’d find. The walk was an adventure in itself—dodging traffic, weaving through motorbikes, and soaking in the daily life on Pontianak’s busy streets. When I finally reached the ferry port (after a bit of a search), I discovered that the next ferry wasn’t leaving for another four days, and the tickets weren’t even sold at the port!
