Woodturning - Natural Edge End Grain Cherry Bowl [and Oneway Termite Tool Revisited]

This week's wood turning project starts with a slice of a cherry log, which I turn into a natural edge (or live edge) round bottom bowl. Please note, this is not the best project for a beginner, especially if they have not turned many end grain oriented pieces. Once again, I attempt to use my Oneway Termite Tool and, once again, end up with mixed results (at best). Ultimately, I used a variety of bowl gouges on the piece (one bowl gouge would have been sufficient, but I wanted to test them all - the 5/8" and 1/2" worked best for me).  End grain needs to be approached somewhat differently than a traditional face grain or cross grain orientation - you don't try to start your cuts in the "meat" of the bowl; you start them at the center, slicing outward, or at the outside edge of the bowl moving inward, so the tool is slicing through each growth ring successively. Regarding the Oneway Termite Tool... it is very difficult to get the hang of it. The ring shaped cutting bit clogs very easily and must be sharpened using a special grinding bit that has to be mounted in a router table. When I am able to get it to work properly, it slices end grain beautifully, but that's maybe 10%-15% of the time. One of these days I'm going to get a hook tool, which works in a similar way, but is not a closed ring, so it doesn't clog up. Maybe the Termite Tool will eventually find its useful place among my tools, but so far it's more frustrating than useful. Anyway... Thank you all SO MUCH for watching and subscribing to my channel! I always look forward to your comments and feedback.  My live interactive remote demonstrations are still going to happen, just not quite as soon as I had hoped.
