What African-Americans' Ancestors Said About Self-Hatred

Self-Hatred has been a problem in the African -American community since the days of slavery. One of the main methods of controlling the enslaved people was to denigrate them, call them racial slurs, and forbid them to speak their native languages, practice their customs and religions, and show any sense of pride in themselves. Their dark skin and textured hair became a stigma of mockery and shame. The enslaved people had no power and over time, this degradation led to them hating their very existence. Their homeland became a place of shame and they disassociated themselves from it. Self-hatred for the African-American has become more and more of a problem. African-American women have to go to court and petition the court for the right to wear their natural hair. Dark skin has become synonymous with racial slurs. In this video, Lady Boule speak on the self-hatred in the African-American community and shares quotes from the ancestors who understood self-hatred in their people and left writing to help them combat it.
