Thung Roeng Royal Project Development Center

In 1976, His Majesty King Bhumibol Aduladej The Great visited Sa Moeng forest area at Baan Pa Lao. The villagers of Mae Kha-nin submitted a petition for His Majesty’s supports on land use development in Thung E-roeng forest area. This area has now become Thung Roeng Royal Project Development Center. With the collaborations of the Royal Project Foundation, Land Development Department and Royal Irrigation Department, land utilization plan for Thung Roeng Royal Project and irrigation management plan for agriculture and consumption were set up in 1997. Later in 1982, His Majesty King Rama IX paid a visit to Mae Kha-nin village, Thung E-roeng forest area under the responsibility of Land Development Department where field crops such as corn, upland rice and soy bean were promoted. Subsequently, Thung Roeng Royal Project Development Center was officially established to support career development and natural resource conservation. With the aims of generating sustainable income and better quality of life of local farmers, Thung Roeng Royal Development Center has set up field demonstration plots and provided supports for vegetable and fruit production under Food Safety Standard like Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Organic Standard. Furthermore, various activities related to education, society and public health as well as community engagement and strengths are organized and developed by the center. The environmental conservation, reforestation project known as “Three Forests, Four Benefits”, vetiver grass growing to reduce soil erosion, chemical use reduction, and environmental contamination monitoring are also supported by the center. The center has become a learning center on highland agriculture for students, farmers and other interested people.
