A really enjoyable day on the river for me, with one of the most accomplished young anglers that I’ve ever had the privilege to ghillie for. The footage pretty much speaks for itself but I’d like to emphasise how cool and calm Maisie remained when playing both her salmon. Her line management was impeccable during both scraps. Definitely a day to remember for Maisie and a very proud day for her dad, Rob. The river was standing at minus 6” on our own gauge, which equates to plus 2” on the SEPA gauge at Ness Side. Water temperature was 15 degrees and air temperature was 16 degrees. Maisie’s winning fly was fished off a floating line with a 10’ slow sinking poly tip and a 15lb Maxima ultra green tippet. Once again, covering the pool was key to success. Another two tide-fresh salmon in the back of the net at the same time, for, once again, the first fish had not fully recovered before the second fish was ready to be netted.
