Ha, how wrong I was. You'll see a much more stale and stuffy book in the video here before you. The book deals with the subject of 'Cost Accounting' and in the video I'm pretending to be an accountant needing to brush up on her knowledge of the fascinating field of the Recording of Costs, marking particular titles and headings in the book using a yellow highlighter to make 'm look more interesting. (* Want to know more about the story behind the video, continue reading below) ====== You'll hear: page turning, at times slow, at other times medium-paced of crinkly pages highlighter marker sounds some page squeezing ==== *So you want to know about the story behind the video. Here it is: A while ago, we went to what in Flanders is called the municipal "containerpark". It's basically the Household Waste Recycling Centre, where as you know people get rid of stuff they no longer want or need such as broken-down fans, plastic packaging, in-laws, Ikea crap, etc. At a certain moment, I was standing on top of a ladder that was positioned alongside the dumpster for mixed paper. In my hands: a stack of old cardboard boxes. I threw them in and while they were falling, I noticed a bright blue book cover. Hm, interesting! The book was lying on top of piles of catalogs, envelopes and bills. Reaching down as far as I could, I tried to get to it. Mission unsuccessful. I tried again, now stretching and extending my whole body as far as possible to the right and thereby catching the eye of the recycling centre attendant. "Hey, Miss! Hey! Miss! Careful!" Focused and mid-rescue mission, I chose to temporarily ignore the man as by this time I was hanging more or less upside down in the dumpster. Three or four grab-attempts in, I finally managed to touch the book. Pulling at a lower corner of its cover, I succeeded in lifting it in the air. However, my feeling of joy was immediately followed by panic as I could feel how the force of the pull had caused the spine to come undone. 🤔 I pulled myself up again, book in hand. Below me, the recycling centre attendant was waiting at the bottom of the ladder. Sh*t. "Just had to retrieve something I shouldn't have thrown in there," I smiled, waving the book in the air, blushing. The man squinted, shielding his eyes from the sun with his hand. "What's that you have there, Miss?" "Eh, just a book. I need it, for, eh, work, yeah, for work. Shouldn't have thrown it in the dumpster. Big mistake." He watched as I returned to solid ground, right beside him. "Show me." I handed him the book. "Hm, Cost Accounting," he read. "That's English." I nodded. "It's my expertise." He studied my then pastel pink hair. "You do cost accounting?" "Uh-huh," I said. "Know everything there is to know about it." He flipped through the book, then closed it with a thwack and shrugged. "Next time, check your items before you throw them in the dumpster. Don't risk your life for bloody Cost Accounting. For God's sake." (After filming this video, I returned the book to the recycling centre, being in the sorry condition it was.
