Grassington: Theshfield to Kilnsey

Looking at the Grassington area over three films. Starting at Threshfield - in itself spread over a wide area - we come in on the road from Skipton to look around the historical centre - behind the Old Hall pub, stands part of grange (sheep farm) dating back to medieval times. Threshfield's centre change with the arrival of the railway in 1902 and led to the development of Station Road down to the Wharfe (seen in part 3). We travel along the main valley road and take then first left turn after the petrol station to Skirethorns - although this is unmarked and says that it is a dead end - it is 3+ miles away! Threshfield limestone quarry is along here. It became redundant in 2003 and you can now walk around it.If you carry on up the road it reaches Bordley on a vast expanse of moorland. Back on the valley road we reach Kilnsey - first seeing the Trout Farm, then around the hamlet and the former Grange of Fountain's Abbey that lies at the bottom of Mastiles Lane. The Crag was created by the Littondale and Wharfedale glaciers meeting and undercutting this spur. It stands 170ft high and has an overhang of 30+ft that climbers love to attempt.
