Have you ever wondered what to do with all of those baby sago palms (pups) around your mature sago palms? Did you know that you can harvest them and produce even more sago palms? Sago palms are quite expensive, but are very beautiful. Sure, you can also wait several years for your sago palm to produce seeds and grow from seed, but why wait? I'll show you how I harvest sago palm pups. Years ago, I purchased a few sago palm pups when I lived in California and from those, I was able to grow many others - which I typically gave away to friends. I've lived in Texas for almost 6 years and planted 2 sago palms more than 5 years ago. My sago palms are now starting to produce pups again so I figured hey... since I have a YouTube channel and I am going to be harvesting them, I may as well show you how I perform my method. Typically, I can expect 50-75% success so I know it works. I know that other methods ask you to dry the freshly cut pups out for a week or so in order to prevent rotting and to cure the wound, but if you cut them away carefully and are able to preserve the tap root, then curing them doesn't help you in the end. Sure, if you chop them off leaving an exposed wound that has a surface area that exceeds more than 25-33% of the pup itself AND you have no tap root, then curing them is highly recommended. If you are uncertain, try both methods to see which works best for you. I hope you like the video and if you have any questions, tips or comments, I'd be happy to read them so leave them below!
