How To Use Neuroplasticity and Soothing Skills to Manage Recurrent UTI: Learn

How To Use Neuroplasticity and Soothing Skills to Manage Recurrent UTI Evelyn Hecht, PT, ATC is the Founder of PelvicSense, an online pelvic healing home program. In the first video of a three-part series, she discusses how to use neuroplasticity and soothing skills to manage recurrent UTI. When chronic UTI symptoms flare during times of stress, it shows that high stress levels are causing the nervous system and immune system to become overly sensitive. This sensitivity means the systems are more acutely perceiving threats to your health and wellbeing. In UTI sufferers, those distress signals being sent to the brain will result in an increased sense of urgency to urinate. In order to keep these distress signals at bay, there are a number of practices and behaviors that can be incorporated into daily life. Deflecting your worry to make space for positive thoughts and gratitude helps. Keeping self-criticism at bay by acknowledging your successes has been shown to flood your brain with dopamine. Spending time in nature and disconnecting from devices is calming. Spending time with pets releases oxytocin. All these techniques, in addition to movement and breath techniques, send signals of safety to your nervous and immune system throughout the day.
