We share how to waterproof the KERDI-BOARD to Tub transition and show how to waterproof a knee wall. The first step is to ensure the studs are 16" on-center if you're using 1/2" KERDI-BOARD. Also, double check the framing is plumb and fix any studs that aren't because this will adversely effect the tile installation. Next, install the first board on the main wall. Typically you'd start at the tub lip and work your way up. But in this example I started in the middle of the wall since it's at an angle. Secure KERDI-BOARD to the studs with only Schluter approved screws and washers. Space screws and washers at a maximum distance of 12" along the stud. KERDI-BOARDs can sit on the tub deck or on the tub lip. If you choose the latter, fill in the gap between the tub and KERDI-BOARD with KERDI-FIX then apply unmodified thin-set to the bottom 3" of the board. Embed KERDI-BAND into both the KERDI-FIX and unmodified thin-set using the Schluter-KERDI trowel or a 1/4" x 3/16" v-notched trowel. I applied a layer of painter's tape to the tub before using the KERDI-FIX as this helps prevent the KERDI-FIX from getting on the tub. Once all the boards are installed the seams and screws/washers need to be covered with KERDI-BAND by using unmodified thin-set.
