Cabin in the Wild: Backpacking through Grizzly Country to Tenquille Lake, Pemberton BC

Tenquille Lake in Pemberton, BC is easily one of my new favorite spots to camp and hike in. You have the option to either stay in the 12 person fully stocked cabin or at one of the tent sites. You can find a ton of information and book your tent site or cabin stay on the Pemberton WildLife Association website linked below: https://pembertonwildlifeassociation.... Three trail access points (2 of these are also mentioned in the link above): *Branch 12 trail/FSR via Hurley FSR (4x4 needed most popular route and the one we did) I recommend downloading the Tenquille Lake Trail AllTrails Map, it was useful in helping us get to the actual trail head as well from the forest service roads. You can also find driving directions on the Pemberton WildLife Association website. Hiking stats if you were to just day hike this trail is 12.6km return with 747m elevation gain according to AllTrails and assuming your vehicle makes it all the way to the trailhead. If you decide to park before the turn off for the Branch 12 road then you’re looking at adding an additional 5km each way to your hike and gradual elevation gain. There is also an option to park about 3km in and hike the last 2km. *Lillooet River (hardest hike in but best for 2WD) On AllTrails you can search up Tenquille Lake from Lillooet River 20.9km return with 1561m elevation gain return trip stats. *Birkenhead Lake FSR to Tenquille Creek Trail (4x4): There’s no AllTrails map for this route but if you google Tenquille creek trail to Tenquille lake you’ll find more information. I’m sure there’s other offline maps where you could find the trail. This route seems pretty easy once you find the trailhead. One blog mentions 3.5km one way to get to the East side of the lake. There is a whole network of hiking trails to do up here from the lake. If you zoom in on an offline map you will see this. We ended up asking our camp host his recommendations and ultimately decided on hiking up to Finch Ridge. There’s quite a few mountains in the area to hike up to, as well as, some other lakes you could hike too. I feel like I could spend a whole week up there doing all sorts of day hikes from the cabin!
