Two solutions of the problem (bullet collides with a block) are considered and analyzed. One of solutions is incorrect. Mistake is analyzed. A bullet of mass 10 g strikes a block of mass 2.0 kg as shown in figure. Assuming that the bullet remains embedded in the block calculate the bullet’s initial speed, v1, if the block immediately after collision moves at a speed v2 = 1.2 m/s.
