How to Create a Logo | Photoshop Lessons Hey this is Scott Strong, certified trainer from The Training Farm. Today I'm going to show you how to recreate the Howcast logo in Photoshop. So this is the Howcast logo that we're going to try to recreate in Photoshop. I'm going to go to a blank document to start out with. First what we're going to do is we're going to bring in the H from the Howcast logo. The H was actually created in Illustrator, so we're going to bring that in as a smart object. We go to file, open it as smart object, and we're going to select it right there. Open. And what it's going to do is it's going to open up in it's own document. And this little icon here in the layers panel, that indicates that it is a smart layer. And what that means is that you have your edit ability still inside of Photoshop. So all I have to do is double click that layer, and it will open up in Illustrator and I can modify this image as I want to. Fortunately for us the designers of this have done a good job so we don't need to do that. What I will do is however is I'm going to duplicate the layer, so right click on it. Go to duplicate layer and I'm going to choose the document, that we have set up for our logo. I'll hit "OK". And when I go back to our logo, it's sitting right there waiting for us. I'm just going to move that down into the center of the screen. Next what I want to do is I want to add the rest of the type on here. So I'm going to use the type tool, and I'm going to select aerial rounded MT bold. I'll click on the layer, and I'm going to drop the point size down a little bit, I give about 30 points to start off with. We can always adjust this later on, maybe I'll drop it down a little further, 14 points. And now what I'm going to do is type in, Howcast. Howcast is a little too large so I'm just going to drop that down a little further. Maybe about ten points, and we'll move it into position here. And I need to drop it down even more, nine points. And what I need to do is I need to scale down the entire size of everything, so I'm just going to put it into a folder, so I have Howcast which is going into the folder and then the H logo also. I'll select the group, and with the move tool I'm going to select "show transform controls" and from here holding down shift on my keyboard, I'll grab the corner and just scale it down in a size that fits on screen. When I have it in place, I'll just hit return on my keyboard. Next what I'll do is I'm going into select one of the layers. It doesn't matter which and I'm going to add a gradient to it. So I'll start off by getting the swatches for the gradient, so I'm just going to open up a file that I have set aside called "Swatches". And from here what I'll do is I'll get the eyedropper tool, I'll get that by hitting I on my keyboard. I'll select one color, hit X on my keyboard, you'll see that the foreground and backgrounds colors shift. I'll select the other color. Now I have the foreground and background color for the gradient. I'll go back to my logo. And if I double click the blank area of the layer, a layer style window shows up. What I'm going to do is I'm going to select "Gradient Overlay", select the type for it and now I can edit the gradient itself. So iIll click on the bar that has the gradient inside of it, for the darker color I'm just going to click the square for that. Now, eyedropper the darker color, hit "OK". Double click the lighter color and eyedropper the lighter color as well. Hit "OK". Hit "OK". Hit "OK". Now what I want to do is I want to copy this gradient over to the H. So all I have to do is hold down option on my keyboard, click gradient overlay, and drag it over to the H. And that's how you create the Howcast logo in Photoshop. 💌 Let's stay Connected 💌 ➡️ our website:https://www.howcast.com/ ➡️ Facebook: / howcast ➡️ / howcast ✨ If you liked this video, I'm sure you'll like these videos as well ▶️ • How to Add Color to Details | Photosh... ▶️ • How to Create a Logo | Photoshop Lessons About us:- Emphasizing high-quality instructional video production, Howcast brings you leading experts and accurate, reliable information on makeup tutorials, cute hairstyles, and nail art designs to soccer tricks, parkour, and skateboarding, plus how to Dougie, how to kiss, and much, much more.
