We have a problem. The next volcanic eruption in Iceland is likely in my opinion to be highly destructive, possibly destroying many structures and generating large volumes of toxic gas. Not only will the next eruption likely involve the largest volume of lava when compared to the prior 6 Reykjanes eruptions, but it is likely to be emplaced so quickly that it enters the ocean. And, due to a correlation between eruptive volume and eruptive fissure length, there is a fairly high chance that lava will erupt south of the walls protecting the town of Grindavik.
