The Abandoned Village of Oso.

In this episode, I visit the abandoned village of "Oso" in the district of Ba on the north coast of the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu. The village is a foundation village and home of the ancestral god of the Tabanivono people. The god is called Nabai and he is still believed to reside there. It is also a place of spirit temples known as "bure kalou" and a vanished, ancient way of life. If that wasn't all, the Tabanivono were at the centre of a tragedy in 1873 that went to the heart of why Fiji became a British colony in 1874. There is very little left of old "Oso". Most of the archaeological remains have sunken into the soggy land which is usually prone to flooding in the rainy season. There is a creek that goes around it that has probably formed from what used to be a man-made, defensive ditch built hundreds of years ago. Nevertheless, there is a deep and profound presence of something profound, mysterious, and otherwordly. That at least is the feeling I and my colleagues on this expedition got.
