The protesters attempted to break through barricades to march towards the West Bengal secretariat, Nabanna, demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation over the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College. Tensions flared at locations such as MG Road, Hastings Road, and Princep Ghat, as well as in Santragachi and Howrah Maidan, where both protesters and police officers sustained injuries. The police responded with lathi charges, water cannons, and tear gas as protesters hurled stones and bricks and tried to dismantle barricades blocking their path.
