Well all these sacrifices, or antics, depending on how you feel about them, are made in them of “method acting.” What on earth is method acting and why have people taken it so far? It all started in the early twentieth century, when a Russian man named Konstantin Stanislavski decided that acting was too cartoonish and grand. He decided that it would be better if, instead of relying on archetypes and over-the-top gestures, actors could just use their own feelings. He called this “the system.” A group of Americans got really into it and tweaked a little, settling on the now iconic name: “the method.” The main person who’s associated with “method” acting is Lee Strasberg, who founded the Actor’s Studio. He taught a lot of people, among them were Marylin Monroe and James Dean. From there, the method had nowhere to go but up. And it spread from actor to actor like wildfire. Decades later, it’s a little out of control. So what might the future hold for Method Acting?
