This is the book the Catholic Church did not want published! They would much prefer the author Ben Brenkert hadn't lifted the lid on the hypocrisy within the church, in his book the 'Catechism of the Heart'. Ben, an ex-Catholic (Jesuit), left the order due to the Catholic Church's position on homosexuality and the dismissal of LGBT+ members of staff. [Discussing Religion & Beliefs] Ben speaks candidly and truthfully about the desire to be an openly gay Jesuit priest. The book speaks not only candidly about the hurt, but also the resiliency and dedication of gay Catholics in the quest to serve their church as ordained priests (E.Fiorenza, Harvard University) -----------------SOCIAL------------------- INSTA: / inclusion.crowd FACEBOOK: / create.inclusion TWITTER: / inclusion_crowd BEN: / benbrenkert1980 -----------------LINKS DISCUSSED IN THIS VIDEO--------------------- The book on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/Catechism-Hear... --------------TODAY'S VIDEO------------ Growing up as a gay Catholic, I also struggled with the hypocrisy between the love and understanding taught by Jesus and the hateful and disgusting words used about the LGBT+ community by the roman catholic institution. So I jumped at the chance to Interview Ben, who has lived and breathed that world while being an openly gay man. I was shocked to hear that the Catholic Church, not only knew that he was gay, but that they let him in and let him start his training as an openly gay priest. It becomes clear very quickly that although Ben is allowed to identify as gay, the deal is; he must be closeted and keep the secret inside the Church. Ben refused, and when the Church went on to sack staff for being part of the LGBT+ community, Ben could not take it anymore and decided to leave and speak out, in his tell-all book, the Catechism of the Heart. I caught-up with Ben from his home in New York, during the COVID-19 pandemic in mid 2020... I felt it was important not to cut the interview short and so I made the conscious decision to let it run into 2 x parts as Ben has a powerful story and I wanted to provide a platform for him to tell it, unabridged. -------------------ABOUT--------------------- Talking about complex stuff and saying it simply, we believe that everyone, irrespective of their background, race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief or other protected characteristic, should never face any form of discrimination or prejudice.
