How to build Green Ammonia Plants?

Green ammonia, produced from renewable energy sources, is an excellent fuel and fertilizer with great potential and prospects to replace large amounts of fossil fuels and help accelerate the world's transition to a renewable energy drive. In 2020, a solar energy company in India launched a green ammonia project, which is supported by KAPSOM, an advocate and practitioner of sustainable energy solutions. The plant is located in northeastern India, and uses renewable energy to produce more than 1,500 tons of green ammonia every year, while reducing CO₂ emissions by about 6,240 tons per year. Different from the traditional ammonia synthesis process, renewable energy is the main energy source for ammonia production. The water is split into H₂ and O₂ by a water electrolysis unit, and N₂ is produced by pressure swing adsorption (PSA), again powered by renewable energy. Finally, using the Haber process, with the aid of a catalyst, a catalytic reaction occurs at a high temperature of 400 °C, with a single conversion rate as high as 14%. Green ammonia has great potential globally as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Especially in the international shipping business, green ammonia has more advantages as a high-quality green fuel (currently, the international shipping industry accounts for about 2% of global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions); while the synthesis of ammonia from fossil fuels for fertilizer production, its carbon dioxide emissions It accounts for about 1% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Currently, the production cost of green ammonia is significantly higher than the cost of synthesizing ammonia from fossil fuels. In order to increase its commercial value and the attractiveness of this sustainable technology route, KAPSOM is developing a new and upgraded green ammonia plant. KAPSOM designed and developed the second-generation skid-mounted ammonia plant, and pioneered the design of a containerized ammonia plant. The main equipment including synthesis towers, heat exchangers, compressors, etc. Our factory completes the installation test of the whole system. The advantages of the containerized ammonia plant are mainly reflected in the following points: Significantly reduce the owner's investment and management costs: the equipment is highly prefabricated and pre-installed, and the owner does not need to build a workshop or on-site installation and other construction operations; Significantly reduce the project construction period: the equipment delivery time is about 3~5 months, the on-site construction and commissioning is 1~2 months, and the fastest 8 months can be completed and put into production; Save land: the area of a single container is only about 30 square meters; At present, KAPSOM has developed four standard series of synthetic ammonia plant products of 2000 tons/year, 5000 tons/year, 10000 tons/year and 20000 tons/year. At the same time, our R&D personnel are developing the skid-mounted standardized designs for three medium and large capacity synthetic ammonia plants of 50,000 tons/year, 100,000 tons/year and 200,000 tons/year.
