Janet - I Get Lonely | Live at TMF Awards | The Music Factory

Janet Damita Jo Jackson, born on May 16, 1966, is an iconic American singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer known for her innovative and socially conscious music. As the youngest of the Jackson family, she made her debut in the entertainment industry with appearances on various television shows, including The Jacksons in 1976. Jackson's breakthrough came in 1982 when she signed with A&M Records, leading to her pop icon status with the release of the influential albums "Control" (1986) and "Rhythm Nation 1814" (1989). Throughout her career, Jackson broke gender and racial barriers, using her sound and choreography as catalysts in the growth of MTV. Her lyrical focus on social issues and lived experiences solidified her reputation as a role model for the youth. In 1991, she signed record-breaking contracts with Virgin Records, becoming one of the highest-paid artists. Despite her success, the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show controversy led to industry blacklisting and a decline in airplay and sales. Undeterred, Jackson continued her career independently, releasing albums like "Discipline" (2008) with Island Records and founding her record label, Rhythm Nation, in partnership with BMG Rights Management. In 2015, she released her eleventh studio album, "Unbreakable." Jackson's impact on the recording industry was celebrated in the inaugural MTV Icon special in 2001, coinciding with the release of "All for You." Her impressive achievements include over 100 million records sold, numerous chart-topping singles, and historic feats on the Billboard Hot 100. Jackson has received five Grammy Awards, eleven Billboard Music Awards, eleven American Music Awards, an Academy Award nomination, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and eight Guinness World Records entries. In 2019, she was rightfully inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing her legacy as one of the world's best-selling and most influential music artists.
