Jonny discovers the full build story behind the 160+ mile (260km) range RBW EV classic MG and reviews their Roadster in typical British weather. Do not mistake this car for a pure restomod or restoration project - look at the number plate. It is a new car, hand made to modern regulations, using a new British Motor Heritage bodyshell married to a Continental motor, control system and Hyperdrive (Nissan) lithium-ion battery modules. German manufacturer Continental supplies motors and control systems to existing new EVs such as Renault's Zoe and Peugeot's e208 amongst many others. These batteries are manufactured for the Nissan Leaf. The RBW weighs only about 40kg more than the original MGB, but rides and handles better, thanks to tubular wishbones and coilover suspension all round. No more axle tramp. It has 50/50 weight distribution and electric power steering. It has regenerative braking, Pioneer infotainment and a heated screen. The RBW MGB has an 8-year warranty is better made than any original MG ever was. Prices start from £88,000 for a built to order car with 70kW motor and 35kWh battery pack. It's a crying shame there is no rapid DC charging capability yet, so for now the quickest you can fully charge the RBW MGB is 4hrs on a 7kW wall box.
