Static equilibrium: tension, torque and forces exerted on a beam. AKA static equilibrium hanging sign problem. In this static equilibrium cable and hinge problem, we calculate tension in the cable using torque and we calculate the hinge force at the end of the beam by using the sum of forces in the x and y directions. In this beam and cable problem, the beam is supported at one end by a hinge, and we use the equations of static equilibrium to compute the force exerted by the hinge in polar form. In the beam and cable torque analysis, we start by using the hinge as the rotation axis, so the force exerted by the hinge drops out of the equation. We are able to quickly solve for the tension in the cable using torque, then we use the net horizontal force and net vertical force equations to calculate the components of the hinge force. Finally, we use the pythagorean theorem and trigonometry to deduce the magnitude of the hinge force and the angle (the polar form of the hinge force). CC: Hindi CC: Filipino CC: German
