On the 5th April 1907, a 52 year old cotton weaver known locally as Stephen Harrison left his house in Hudhey, Haslingden, to go to work. Unfortunately, once he arrived, he was told that he was no longer employed and that his loom had been passed over to another man. Stephen had effectively been sacked from his job. Already suffering from what we believe to be depression, he made the walk to Holden Wood and towards the Holden Wood Reservoir. He was never seen alive again.
