Sinker redwood comes from reclaimed logs pulled from rivers in Northern California, and our friends at Taylor often refer to it as "cedar on steroids." Like cedar, it's responsive, and it presents a beautiful bouquet of warm overtones. But, it has more headroom and brightness because of its stiffness. Pair that with the warmth and richness of the Honduran rosewood back and sides, and you get quite an intoxicating sonic cocktail. When rosewood and redwood come together, it creates a warm, dynamic instrument with shocking touch sensitivity. Pair that sound with the all-around star qualities of the Grand Auditorium body shape, and one thing is clear: these guitars are beasts! The 414ce LTD's shape is another reason why it's such an all-terrain vehicle. The Grand Auditorium body is particularly cool because it's a Taylor original without too many antecedents or influence from "traditional" acoustic guitar design. Size-wise, it lands somewhere between a dreadnought and a grand concert, so it is supremely comfortable to play. Being an in-betweener, it responds equally well to fingerstyle and pick playing. It captures all of the subtleties and nuances of the player's attack, yet it also sounds full and satisfying when you strum a big chord.
