Come walking with me around Comacchio, a small village built on 13 small islands connected by brick bridges, often called “Little Venice”. Lacking the grandeur of Venice, Comacchio certainly makes up for it with its charm. Comacchio is situated in the northern region of Emilia-Romagna, on the edge of its own lagoon that carries the same name – Comacchio. The city is also located within the Po Delta Park, which makes it an extraordinary naturalistic attraction, especially regarding birdwatching activities. The symbol of this small town is the Trepponti complex, a large 17th-century bridge that once served as a fortified gateway to the city, when it could only be accessed by water. The bridge has five rounded staircases and two towers. It connects the town’s canals with the canal that leads to the Adriatic sea.
