Protecting a lifeline - preparing for the digital voice switchover

By the end of 2025, all traditional copper wired landline phones will be switched to a digital service called 'Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)'. Whilst consumers won't be familiar with the term, they might know of the names different brands are using - for example, BT call this Digital Voice, and Sky call this Internet Calls. Ofcom has developed guidance for providers such as BT, Virgin Media and Sky to follow, to ensure vulnerable customers are protected throughout the process, but are they being followed and where are the gaps? We were joined by Kamran Mallick, CEO at Disability Rights UK, Dennis Reed, Director of Silver Voices, and Sarah Shepherd, Head of Digital Phone Switchover at techUK, as they shared their concerns for customers and some experiences of the switchover. This webinar also considered the practical steps providers should be taking to protect their customer's needs, and ensure no one is left without crucial services as part of the switch.
