It’s the kind of innovative output that can only occur through means of undeniable personal chemistry and friendship that few musical groups possess. It’s no wonder the widely acclaimed Minnesota indie-rock band has surpassed a billion streams between four LPs and six EPs, performed to sold-out audiences all over the country, and then some. Over the last five years, Hippo Campus has been holed up, writing 100-plus songs and clocking countless hours of recording work with their longtime collaborator and producer Caleb Wright. Eventually, they scrapped everything and started the recording process over with Brad Cook at Sonic Ranch in North Carolina. Flood was ultimately recorded in just 10 days. While Hippo Campus’s music continues to mature and cultivate new lyrical and music ideas, Flood delivers the familiar, intricate melodic riffs and hooks that are quintessential to the band’s aesthetic.
