on-board camera POV review - PRO-BRO RC BODYBOARD Using both a basic GOPRO HERO2 AND A FIREFLY8 I have tested the POV from various angles , facing forward and backwards - I have mostly filmed at 1080 - 60fps and always had the cameras set on WIDE which is 170 degrees for both camera's. What I have found is that even the 170 WIDE view does not offer enough ability to capture the wave face whist surfing down the line, when pointed perpendicularly forward. In most instances I have further angled the camera toward a preferred side by around 22.5 degrees, in this session, to the left, to best try and capture the left wave rides (ironically , the first three waves were rights - lol - murphy !!!) Even though I have been able to capture some fun - stunning - trippy footage, it has been frustrating to know that it could have and should have looked better. At no stage have i sped the footage up, but I have slowed much of it post editing by around 10% - In a few cases, when the lighting has dimmed, the focus has struggled, but on a hole, it has been impressive. I have no doubt with clearer days and hollower waves it would have been a marked improvement by comparison to what I have. BUT ! - I do strongly feel that the later GOPRO's HERO4 upwards with the SUPER WIDE VIEW will add further value to what is captured in-frame. Added to that, after much research, if you, like me and like the onboard POV and want to invest in achieving the maximum out of it, its going to mean digging deep into ones pocket and cashing out some big $'s for the GOPRO HERO7 BLACK - not only has it got SUPER VIEW - but you can still film in 1080 80fps and utilise the stabilisation SUPER SMOOTH FUNCTION, which is ten fold better than even the HERO6 ( apparently most pro snowboarders dont even use the gimbal anymore when filming with the GPH7) The on-board POV has certainly grabbed my fancy - it takes the viewer 'into the zone and lends that feeling of actually being 'in the water - it will certainly add huge value to any video being produced and will help SHARE the STOKE when you are out on your own with no one else to film from the beach - I have no doubt that, when all the stars are aligned and I am sporting the right equipment, I am going to be filming some seriously Clas-Sick onboard POV footage - Humble beginnings with a great View in sight ! = l
