This English Language Arts Common Core video features 10th grade students from Glen Cove High School in Glen Cove, NY. In this lesson students participate in a socratic seminar and demonstrate the standards RI.9-10.6: Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how an author uses rhetoric to advance that point of view or purpose and SL.9-10.3: Evaluate a speaker's point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence and rhetoric, identifying any fallacious reasoning or exaggerated or distorted evidence. Teacher Lauren Jensen facilitates a student-led discussion where students analyze and informational text and then compare it to a poem.
