Whilst Class 33s were commonly seen working passenger trains, Class 73 locomotives had largely been assigned to parcels and freight services prior to their use on Gatwick Express services. However In 1987 these locomotives were working push/pull operations on the London Waterloo to Bournemouth services prior to the introduction of 442s Wessex EMUs. Featured here at Southampton, several are seen along with a Class 33 working trains along the Wessex main line.
