1926 Gustav Becker Westminster Chimes Bracket Clock

Welcome to the Singing Clockery, a channel dedicated to the sights and sounds of antique and vintage mechanical chiming clocks. If you enjoy this channel, consider subscribing to it, and tap the bell to be notified of future posts. Thanks for watching! Presented today is a smaller, Westminster chiming bracket clock, made by the Gustav Becker clock company out of Germany in 1926. This clock features an attractive, dome-topped case, an arched dial with painted Arabic numerals, and two subsidiary dials for chime silencing and speed regulation. The dial is protected by a thick pane of beveled glass held in a metal frame, with slender columns on either side. At the heart of the clock beats a spring-powered, pendulum-driven, three-train movement, which runs for eight days on a winding. The clock chimes progressively longer segments of the Westminster melody every fifteen minutes, using four hammers on four chime rods. At the top of the hour it plays the full tune, then strikes the number of hours with an alternate set of four hammers. Because the gong is mounted on the inner frame of the case, the sound of this clock is surprisingly sweet and full-bodied, especially considering its rather diminutive size.
